Property Description

Welcome to this historic all-brick Georgian style colonial home in Manheim Township on a .47 acre corner lot. This home was featured in the book "Lancaster County Architecture 1700-1850" (page 104). This "four-over-four" home of eight original rooms with center hallway includes chandeliers in each room and has been water-blasted and completely repointed. Steel plates were added over each window for reinforcement. Nine-foot ceilings are standard for this grand old lady built in 1799. The first floor contains a large living, dining, and family room along with the kitchen and "summer kitchen". The living room features chair rail, an original built-in corner cupboard with glass doors, the PA keystone and rare butterfly shelves with brass hardware, along with one of four remaining fireplaces with the original mantel and over-mantel woodwork. The dining room features another original built-in corner cupboard with wood panel doors, PA keystone, and butterfly shelves along with crown molding and chair-rail. Hand-stenciling was added below the chair rail and the perimeter of the ceiling. Some of the original horse-hair plaster remains. The original solid wood front door with large strap hinges includes the original 6-inch solid brass door key. The exterior pediment was modeled after the Sehner Ellicot house in Lancaster City. Entry is made into the center hallway which contains the original wood panel doors and wrought iron hardware. The staircase to the 2nd/3rd floors is at the back of the hall. The custom kitchen by Beiler Woodworking has crown molding with seagull lighting and another original fireplace with exposed brick. A contrasting brick wall compliments the kitchen with honed granite countertop and island topped with honed quartz. The summer kitchen with loft was added in 1820 and later remodeled with custom wood cabinetry with honed granite countertops to match the kitchen. The brick walls and ceiling beams are exposed with added custom lighting. French doors conceal the washer & dryer. A bathroom was added which includes a tiled shower with glass door, hand-stenciled floor, and copper sink. The second floor includes four large bedrooms with combed floors and the main bathroom remodeled in 2006, with double sinks, closet, and tiled bathtub with glass doors. All four bedrooms have chair rail, two have crown molding, and two have original fireplaces. This solid brick home, dubbed Springside Manor, was built on top of a natural spring which flows to a display area outside of the walk-out basement. A waterfall feature was added in 2008. The spring water eventually flows into the Little Conestoga. Outside gathering areas include a flagstone covered patio at the waterfall, a flagstone terrace, a brick patio with pergola, and a fire pit area with large evergreens as the backdrop. The carriage-house style oversize two-car garage with front porch overlooking the waterfall has a utility sink, insulated walls with finished wall board, and is supplied with plumbing & electric to the second floor for future use. This amazing piece of history is ready for the next owner to continue caring for her with all her unique features.
